Scarlett Luo

Scarlett Luo is a senior at Edmonds-Woodway High School. Beyond the classroom, she finds her interests in Asian-American advocacy and science, specifically breast cancer research as it is the leading cancer for women in the United States. This summer, she participated as part of the Seattle cohort for Columbia University’s DREAM-High program, where she spent 50 hours learning about R code in application to breast cancer data. Additionally, she did independent research through ISB’s STiSA program, focusing on the niche topic of Asian-American female correlation with breast cancer. Through both of these programs, she was able to fulfill not only her interest in breast cancer, but also connect her two interdisciplinary areas of interest into one project. She hopes that she can raise more awareness about the rising prevalence of breast cancer in young Asian-American women.
