Environmental Systems in the Outdoors Research Experience

In August 2022, 50 high school students from across the country participated in the Environmental Systems in the Outdoors Research Experience. This 6-week program introduced students to environmental scientists, encouraged them to connect to their local outdoor environments through science, and resulted in environmental stewardship final projects. Check out many of these projects, as well as student work from throughout the research experience.

Student Projects

In 2021, we launched a Systems Thinkers in STEM Ambassadorship (STiSA). Between November 2021 and June 2022, we showcased 45 Ambassadors on our website, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. These students completed projects such as STiSA profiles, STEM professional interviews, and environmental projects/human health projects. This program and others continue! Peruse Featured Student Projects and projects that were highlighted as part of the 2021-2022 STiSA Showcase.

Computational Modeling Workgroup

During the summer of 2020, 42 rising 12th-grade students used their quarantine time to learn how computational modeling can be used to solve complex problems. Students designed and completed projects related to computational modeling with the online guidance of scientists, programmers, and educators within or connected to Systems Education Experiences at ISB. YOU can freely access and interact with their projects and other computational modeling resources from our Gaining Insight through Systems Thinking and Computational Modeling website.
