Systems Thinkers in STEM Ambassador– Systems Medicine

Sarah is a senior at Kamiak High School. At her school, she is an active member in her school’s math team and peer-tutoring program. She strives to give back to her community and create a welcoming environment where diversity thrives. In her free time, Sarah enjoys knitting, crocheting, and reading.

Sarah’s project explores how ultraviolet radiation impacts gene expression and in turn can cause skin cancer. Sarah is passionate about exploring how changes within the body’s systems impact human health. She is interested in studying how even the smallest mutations can cause severe impacts within the small, but mighty cells that are the fundamental basis of life. In the future, she hopes to participate in research efforts that develop therapies to combat malignant diseases.
