Environmental Systems in the Outdoors Research Experience

Hello! My name is Phia Waite and I am a senior at Lincoln High School in Seattle. My interest in conservation began with marine science as a volunteer interpreter at the Seattle Aquarium. Since then, my passion has expanded into many other areas, such as forestry, ecology, and community engagement. In my free time, I enjoy reading, dance, hiking, and spending time outside. As my school’s gymnastics co-captain and leader of the environmental club, I aim to use my leadership skills to make change while also fostering community and having fun. Through ESORE, I was able to expand my knowledge of environmental issues, solutions, and careers and had the privilege of talking with incredible scientists and leaders. My project works to foster reconnection with the earth by making foraging more accessible to Seattle residents. In the future, I look forward to using my environmental knowledge and leadership skills in college and beyond.
