Environmental Systems in the Outdoors Research Experience

Claire is a student at Newport High School in Bellevue, Washington. She hopes to study biology in college. Claire is part of both the Chinese and French language programs at her school, and the president of Chinese Culture Club as well as part of the leadership of the Jing Mei Tutoring program. She is also involved with the French, Ocean Science, and Youth Legislation clubs at her school and is a youth volunteer at the Seattle Aquarium.

Claire’s project involved studying the impact of nitrogen and phosphorous on plankton. The project ties into how humans affect key parts of the environment through actions like fertilizer pollution.
